cousin-brucie-website-graphic-melanie

Singer Melanie Safka, professionally known as Melanie, will visit Cousin Brucie on this upcoming “Cousin Brucie’s Saturday Night Rock & Roll Party.”

Melanie was born in Astoria, Queens (NYC). She performed at the Woodstock Festival in 1969 and Woodstock was the inspiration for her first hit song, “Lay Down (Candles in the Rain).” The Woodstock audience lit candles, cigarette lighters and matches while she sang. The recording became a hit in the United States, Europe, Australia and Canada in 1970.

She was awarded Billboard’s No. 1 Top Female Vocalist award in 1972. Melanie produced two gold albums and earned a gold single for “Brand New Key.” She became an official UNICEF Ambassador in 1972 and cancelled a world tour so that she could assist in raising money for the organization.

Some of her greatest hits include “Brand New Key,” “Ruby Tuesday,” and “Beautiful People.”

Cousin Brucie will take requests and dedications live on-air! The call-in number is 800-848-9222. You can also call in for your chance to win Cousin Brucie merchandise such as a Cousin Brucie t-shirt and a Cousin Brucie hat as well as CDs and DVDs from my friends at Oldies.com.

Tune in on Saturday from 6 pm-10 pm! Don’t turn the radio off after Cousin Brucie’s show is over because the “Saturday Nights with Tony Orlando” show comes on right after from 10 pm-midnight. It is going to be an amazing night!
