Cousins…this upcoming show is one you won’t want to miss! Richard Carpenter from ‘The Carpenters’ will join Cousin Brucie on this Saturday night’s show as a special guest.
Richard Carpenter is an American singer, musician, record producer, songwriter, and music arranger, who formed the very successful brother/sister duo with his sister Karen – The Carpenters.
Richard and Karen signed with A&M Records on April 22, 1969. Label owner and recording Star
Herb Alpert suggested that the Carpenters record a Burt Bacharach and Hal David song “(They Long to Be) Close to You”.
The song climbed to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it stayed for a month!
One night, Richard was watching television and there was a bank commercial. The musical theme of the commercial impressed him, which inspired him to rewrite and rearrange it into another Carpenter hit song
“We’ve Only Just Begun”.
One of their next singles “Top of the World” (1972-a little country flavor) was released and gave Richard and Karen another Number One Hit.
