This Saturday night… I will present a special visit – The Lovin’ Spoonful Songbook.
‘The Lovin’ Spoonful’ founder and lead singer/songwriter John Sebastian joins legendary guitarist Arlen Roth to present the Lovin’ Spoonful songbook. The two artists recorded instrumental duets of Spoonful tracks “Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind?,” “Daydream,” “You Didn’t Have To Be So Nice,” “Rain On The Roof,” “Nashville Cats,” using just two guitars, bass and drums. This musical trend has caught on during the past few years. It’s a wonderful and personal way to listen to our favorite performers. We skip all of the heavy production and are presented with an almost one on one performance. Tommy James did this for us a couple of years ago and continues this personal approach today.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members ‘The Lovin’ Spoonful’ developed their style in the Greenwich Village folk music scene of the early ’60s, and have had several chart busters – “Do You Believe In Magic,” “You Didn’t Have To Be So Nice,” “Daydream,” “Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind?” and “Summer In The City.” John Sebastian is a successful songwriter whose songs have been recorded by many artists, including Elvis Costello, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, The Everly Brothers and Tom Petty.
Sharing this visit is Super-Guitarist Arlen Roth who has been named one of the Top 100 Most Influential Guitarists of All-time by Vintage Guitar magazine and one of the Top 50 Acoustic Guitarists of All-Time by Gibson.com. Arlen is a member of the New York Blues Hall of Fame. Throughout his career, Arlen has performed and recorded with the Bee Gees, Bob Dylan, Duane Eddy, Pete Seeger, John Entwistle, Simon and Garfunkel, Phoebe Snow, James Taylor and many more.
