This Saturday night’s special guest is Robert Zapata. He is an original member of “Cannibal and the Headhunters.”

If you were offered one hit song… “Land of a Thousand Dances”might have been a good choice.

The LA group “Cannibal and the Headhunters” grabbed their one Golden Record and successfully released their “Thousand Dances.” Cannibal and the Headhunters were the first Mexican-American Rock Band to have a National hit. “1000 Dances” was written by Chris Kenner and Fats Domino.

The Record was released in 1965 and quickly shot up the charts. The hit Record opened the door to the music world for the band. They performed with The Miracles, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Tom Jones and Peter and Gordon. Paul McCartney saw Cannibal and the Headhunters on Hullabaloo and asked them to tour with The Beatles. The band became the opening act for the Beatles Second American Tour (*backed by the King Curtis Band).

The Cuz welcomes original band member Robert Zapata to WABC this Saturday 10/23.

Listen to the show from 6PM-10PM on wabcmusicradio.com, 770 AM, the 77 WABC app!
