This Saturday night… our special guest is Dodie Stevens who became famous because of a pair of shoe laces- they were PINK! Dodie Stevens was born to be a star! When she was a child, she took singing and dancing lessons. She recorded her first song, “Merry Go Round,” at 8-years-old and performed this song on Art Linkletter’s House Party television show.
She was later signed to a label at a record company where her name was changed to Dodie and at 13-years-old was gifted “Pink Shoe Laces.” She was a bit hesitant on the new name and new song. However, her thinking altered once she saw that the song hit no. 3 on the national charts and was awarded a Gold Record.
Cousin Brucie will play “Yes, I’m Lonesome Tonight.” It is the answer song to Elvis’ hit “Are You Lonesome Tonight” which was originally recorded in the ’20s.
You’ll love it! Cousins, join in on the fun this Saturday from 6PM-10PM! Listen on www.wabcmusicradio.com, 770 AM, or the 77 WABC app!
P.S. Dodie Stevens will be appearing on the “Holiday DooWop At The Basie” Show – December 4, 2021 at the Count Basie Theater in NJ.
