Because of the passing of my dear friend BOBBY RYDELL, a friendship that lasted over 62 years – I thought rebroadcasting this show, which features Bobby Rydell would be a great way to remember Bobby, pay tribute to Bobby, and honor Bobby. This may be one of the last in depth interviews Bobby Rydell ever did. We had a great time together and I want to share it with you again. The world and the music industry lost a great artist and I lost a great friend.

The Philadelphia sound is the name that was given to Philadelphia because of the unique sound that was associated with the mixture of lush strings combined with incredible rhythm sections and great vocal performances. Just as Detroit had Motown as their city’s signature musical sound, and California was represented by the surfing sound of THE BEACH BOYS, and of course the UK invaded the world with their own sound- in fact to this day their sound is referred to as an invasion.
As we play such artists as THE SPINNERS, THE STYLISTICS, TEDDY PENDERGRASS, HAROLD MELVIN AND THE BLUE NOTES, THE OJAYS and LOU RAWLS that is the sound of Philadelphia so from R&B to the The birth of Philadelphia’s Golden Boys, which consisted of FRANKIE AVALON, FABIAN and our guest tonight the great BOBBY RYDELL, -trail blazers from Philadelphia making records that created the phenomenon known as the teen age idol era! Not only making great hits from Philly but making Philadelphia a major hit record making city. Diverse and totally original.
I also must mention Philadelphia’s DICK CLARK, and his American Bandstand, only God could make more stars than DICK CLARK! And Bandstand’s original home for many years was Philadelphia. It’s a show that could ring the liberty bell once again! The music is that great! In addition to the sounds of Philadelphia, Saturday night’s show will be visited by one of Philadelphia’s most beloved artists and my friend the great BOBBY RYDELL.
