Hi Cousins!
This week’s “visitor” is Billy J. Kramer who was managed by Brian Epstein (The Beatles) during the ‘60’s. After Billy graduated secondary school he became an engineering apprentice with the British Railway. In his spare time he played guitar and decided on a singing career.
Brian Epstein introduced him to the Beatles and according to Rock & Roll mythology the “J” in his name was suggested by John Lennon to make it sound stronger. Billy J was given several songs written by Lennon and McCartney – his route to stardom was certain.
In 1963 George Martin produced Billy’s cover “Do You Want To Know A Secret”. It hit the British charts and he was in the way to success. This was followed by – “Bad To Me”, “Little Children” , “I Call Your Name” and “I’ll Keep You Satisfied”. His autobiography “Do You Want To Know A Secret” was published in 2016.
