This Saturday Night, It’s My Labor Day Weekend Special!

8-30-tony-article-2

Hello everyone!

LABOR DAY WEEKEND, for me all my life, has great memories, great family BBQ’s, and getting that last summer tan! AND my tenure as co host of the JERRY LEWIS NEW YORK and National Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon. So I would love to dedicate this Saturday night’s show to JOHN & JOSH SHATESKY!

John was my co-host and would call for the tote board to raise millions on behalf of Jerry’s kids every year the JERRY LEWIS MDA Telethon. John and his brother Josh both fought on behalf of the ridding of this dreadful disease, by serving as warriors for the cure. That had an amazing affect on me and my friend and telethon partner, co-host/ legendary sports broadcaster, RUSS SALZBERG! It was also an enormous inspiration for all of the millions who watched JERRY LEWIS love his kids.

Yes, sadly we lost the Shatesky Brothers, both Josh & John…Josh earlier this year, and his brother John just recently. They will be deeply missed!!! I have two nephews, NICHOLAS & ANTHONY D’AGOSTINO, who all these years continue to fight their battle with Muscular Dystrophy. They continue to blow my mind and inspire me!! I salute and dedicate this Labor Day Weekend’s Saturday night show to them them as well and again, thank them for all they have given! One is a talented rapper and the other a future brilliant American Congressman!! I am so proud of them!

Then, there is another MD young man, hero, friend of mine…the late CHRISTOPHER RUSH. We sang Ghost Brothers together on the telethon, and that young man went on to be a super lawyer before the disease took him. One year on the MDA telethon, myself and the COLE BROTHERS, TRACY & KERRY COLE (members of THE LEFTY BROTHERS BAND), sang “Tears In Heaven” by ERIC CLAPTON in remembrance of CHRISTOPHER RUSH! Labor Day has significant memories for me, and I must say one of the greatest of all is becoming best friends with a man that is one of the greatest of men i’ve ever known …the late JERRY LEWIS!

He should never be forgotten, in my opinion he is a true American Hero! Now, let’s not forget that the Labor Day Weekend marks the unofficial end of summer. So, let’s remember the fun of this holiday weekend from the great “Labor Day Parade” on Fifth Avenue, or that last weekend of Summer at Coney Island’s beaches…to that incredible backyard BBQ! Let’s enjoy this holiday to its fullest… a holiday that celebrates hard work, and remembers the hard working Americans that Truly make our country the greatest nation in the world!

And I’ll do my part in playing great music to add to this fun filled Labor Day weekend! From the THE BEATLES “A Hard Day’s Night” to FRANKIE VALLI AND THE FOUR SEASON’s “Working My Way Back To You”!
