Whoever created Soul Music must have had the Chi-Lites in mind. The group formed while the guys attended Chicago’s Hyde Park High School. They were originally called “The Desideros”- became “The Hi-Lites” In 1964 the Soulmen wanted to honor their home – Chicago – “The Chi-Lites” were born. Our visitor this week is an original member of the Chi-Lites, Marshall Thompson. Marshall came from a musical family and made good use of his heritage.
The “Chi’s” greatest success came during the late ‘60’s through the early ’70’s. They scored eleven Top Ten R&B hits and charted twenty-one songs on Billboards Hot 100 Pop Chart. “Have You Seen Her” (1971) and the number one hit “Oh Girl” (1972) captured Radio shows all over the world and both songs were awarded Golden Discs. In 2021, The Chi-Lites were awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
He’s a Soul Man – let’s welcome Marshall Thompson to MusicRadio WABC this Saturday 10/14/23.
