Hello friends!
For this Saturday night’s show, my brother David calls and says “Hey, my brother…what do think of this idea for a show? The record business’ greatest cover records!” So, as an example, 1965 OTIS REDDING records his original recording of “Respect”, a hit right? BUT, remember to credit OTIS because his is the first, YES THE ORIGINAL, recording of “R-E-S-P-E-C-T”….is the very first!!! So, wait a minute ARETHA FRANKLIN’S iconic recording was not the first!? WHAT?! To my surprise, it was the cover version, a remake, and her incredible version becomes her signature song!
Not the original, the cover version, and now you say “Respect” you don’t think OTIS, you only think ARETHA! Well now, I think you know where I’m headed…but, here’s the twist in the road… sometimes covers are the hits like respect and the original recordings are not, and then it can be vice versa!
Example… “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’“ by HALL & OATES hit record of that song, was a remake, yes a cover version, of the iconic award-wining original by the incredible RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS!
Trust me… Saturday night’s show is jaw dropping! Honestly, you will over and over again say to yourself, “OMG, I never knew that was not the original! This record by CYNDI LAUPER “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” is a cover version, and not the original?!” And CYNDI didn’t write that iconic song which is really a jawbreaker knowing that CYNDI LAUPER is a fantastic singer-songwriter, and she not only did not write it, but was a mega-hit cover version!
I don’t want to give away some more jaw- dropping cover version titles in this advanced copy I’ve written! Oh and one more thing! I just saw that “Good Lovin’” by THE RASCALS is a cover of a recording by a beloved Doo wop group!
