Hello Cousins!
Brooklyn gave us “The Egg Cream”, Mrs. Stahl’s Kinishes, The Cyclone, Nathan’s ….and remember Steeplechase Park? That amazing borough also gave us some historic Doo Wop – The Tokens, The Chimes, The Jive Five, The Passions and our guest this week PHIL CRACOLICI – the original lead vocalist of The Mystics.
Originally called the Overons , they signed with Indie label Laurie and needed a new name. They placed slips of paper in a hat and out came “ The Mystics”. The legendary Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman wrote a song for the group that was their golden key.
Released in May 1959, “Hushabye” became a top 20 hit, establishing The Mystics as a premier doo-wop group. ‘The Mystics’ harmonies and their iconic “Hushabye” have cemented their place in doo-wop history.
The original members were inducted into the Doo Wop Music Hall of Fame in 2015.
Welcome Phil Cracolici to WABC MUSICRADIO.
