Hey Cousins!
Our Special guest this week is JIMMY CLANTON. His personal life had a direct and significant influence on his songwriting. His early songs, including his breakout hit “Just a Dream”.
This hit was inspired by a real experience.
Just a Dream” was written after a quarrel with his first girlfriend.
This personal approach gave Jimmy’s songs a genuine heartfelt feeling. The audience quickly identified with it and he became a teen idol. The song climbed to number four on the Billboard charts and sold over a million copies in 1958.
Other major hits include “Go, Jimmy, Go” and “Venus in Blue Jeans,” both of which reached the Top Ten.
Jimmy charted seven U.S. Top 40 singles between 1958 and 1962.
He starred in the classic rock & roll movie Go, Johnny, Go! and the film Teenage Millionaire and performed alongside legends such as Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, and the Platters.
After a stint in the U.S. Army in the early 1960s, he continued to perform and record, later working as a disc jockey and participating in oldies concerts. He was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame and the Museum of the Gulf Coast Hall of Fame. His legacy as a pioneer of New Orleans pop and early rock & roll endures, after nearly 70 years in the music business.
Jimmy will headline a Star-Studded Rock & Roll Show on Saturday May 17, 2025 at The Count Basie Theatre – Red Bank, NJ ( (732) 842-9000)
We welcome JIMMY CLANTON to our show this Saturday 5/10/25.
Go Jimmy Go!
