ROCK & ROLL CALL
The Flamingos were formed in Chicago in 1951 by a couple of cousins, Zeke and Jake Carey, along with Paul Wilson and Johnny Carter. They helped define the sound of 1950s R&B and early rock and roll with their smooth harmonies and sophisticated arrangements. Their biggest hit, “I Only Have Eyes For You,” became a timeless classic and a hallmark of the doo-wop era.
Our very Special guest this week is TERRY “BUZZY” JOHNSON.
He joined The Flamingos in 1956 as a singer, songwriter, arranger, and guitarist. Terry’s musical talent was key to the group’s original sound, especially his arrangement of “I Only Have Eyes For You,” which he said came to him in a dream.
He sang tenor and lead on many of the group’s hits, including “Lovers Never Say Goodbye,” “Mio Amore,” and “I’m In The Mood For Love”.
Terry also had a successful career at Motown, writing and producing for major acts like Smokey Robinson & The Miracles and The Four Tops.
Terry and The Flamingos continue recording new music and performing. He and The Flamingos have been honored with inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Grammy Hall of Fame, and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.
Join the Cuz and let’s welcome Terry Johnson to MUSICRADIO this Saturday, 5/17/25.
