Our guest this week is BRUCE CHANNEL, born in Jacksonville, Texas.
He is best known for his chart-topper “Hey Baby.” The song features the very recognizable harmonica star Delbert McClinton (who had a great influence on John Lennon).
“Hey Baby” reached number one on the U.S. pop charts in March 1962, holding the top spot for three weeks, and also hit number two in the UK. The single sold over a million copies and earned a gold disc.
Bruce co-wrote “Hey! Baby” with Margaret Cobb in 1959 and performed it live for two years before recording it in 1961 — and you’ll remember that “Hey Baby” was featured in the movie “Dirty Dancing” (one of my favorite movies).
Bruce moved to Nashville in 1978 and became a very successful songwriter.
