Our visitor this week is one the first and most successful singer-songwriters in the music industry.
JACKIE DESHANNON was born in Kentucky and started her career when she was a teenager on local radio. She started writing songs in several genres inclusive to rock, folk, R&B, country, gospel and jazz. She is truly a multi-talented artist.
Jackie gave her audience the soulful major hit, “What The World Needs Now is Love” and another chart topper, “Put A Little Love In Your Heart.” Her amazing songwriting skills gave us “When You Walk In The Room” and the global hit “Bette Davis Eyes.”
Throughout her career, she collaborated with musical icons such as Sharon Sheeley, Jimmy Page, Van Morrison, and Randy Newman, and her songs have been recorded by many artists — including The Searchers, Marianne Faithfull, Brenda Lee, The Byrds, Cher, and many more.
In 1964, she notably supported The Beatles on their first U.S. tour, further solidifying her place in music history.
Jackie DeShannon was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010, and her influence continues to resonate with performers and songwriters around the world.
