Rock & Roll Call. ππβοΈπ€
Our guest this week is MARTHA REEVES. One of the most recognizable and defining performers of the Motown Sound.
The lead singer of Martha and the Vandellas was born in Alabama and raised in Detroit.
Martha began singing in church choirs developing her powerful gospel trained voice. She got a job at Motown Records, initially working as a secretary before being discovered by the labelβs producer Mickey Stevenson.
Alongside Rosalind Ashford and Annette Beard, Martha fronted Martha and the Vandellas, a group that became a cornerstone of the Motown sound. Their string of hits in the 1960s β included βHeat Wave,β βDancing in the Street,β βNowhere to Run,β βJimmy Mackβ
and βCome and Get These Memoriesβ.
She entered public service, serving on Detroitβs City Council from 2005 to 2009. Her enduring contributions have been recognized with inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1995) and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. Martha Reeves remains a symbol of Motownβs golden age and a testament to the lasting spirit of soul music.
We enthusiastically welcome Martha Reeves to MusicRadio this Saturday 11/1/25.
