Rock & Roll Call. 📞📞☎️🎤

Our guest this week is R&B singer-songwriter EDDIE FLOYD. Eddie helped define Memphis’s Stax Records during the 60’s and 70’s. He was born in Alabama and grew up in Detroit, Michigan, and became involved in the city’s music scene. Eddie co-founded the R&B vocal group The Falcons — he was 16 years old. The Falcons featured future stars Wilson Pickett and Mack Rice. They hit the charts with “You’re So Fine” and “I Found A Love.”

In 1965, Eddie Floyd joined Motown as a songwriter and collaborated with guitarist Steve Cropper. They wrote songs for Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, and Carla Thomas, including the classic “634-5789 (Soulsville, U.S.A.)”

Eddie’s solo breakthrough came in 1966 when he recorded “Knock on Wood,” a song originally intended for Otis Redding. The recording, driven by his energetic vocals and Cropper’s guitar, soared to the top of the R&B charts and became an anthem, covered by more than one hundred artists.

Eddie continued to record and tour, collaborating with artists like the Blues Brothers Band and Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings. Throughout his career, his blend of pop melody and Southern soul delivery earned him respect as both a remarkable vocalist and a prolific songwriter.

We welcome EDDIE FLOYD to MusicRadio — Saturday 11/8/25.
