Rock & Roll Call. ๐Ÿ“ž๐Ÿ“žโ˜Ž๏ธ๐ŸŽค ๐Ÿฆƒ

FREDDY โ€œBOOM BOOMโ€ CANNON. Where did the โ€œBoom Boomโ€ nickname come from? Probably from his dynamic forceful musical style โ€” and his attachment to early Rock & Roll heroes โ€” Little Richard, Bo Diddley, and Chuck Berry โ€” weโ€™ll find out.

Freddyโ€™s musical journey began in the mid-1950s when he played guitar on the G-Clefsโ€™ single โ€œKa-Ding Dong,โ€ (which reached #24 on the Billboard Top 100). Hereโ€™s a quote from an Email Freddy sent to me:

โ€œON THE G-CLEFFS I PLAYED RHYTHM GUITAR
KENNY PAULSIN PLAYED LEAD.โ€

โ€œBoom Boomโ€™sโ€ breakthrough came in 1959 with โ€œTallahassee Lassie,โ€ a song based on a poem written by his mother. The single reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and launched his career as a solo artist.

Throughout his career, he charted more than 20 times on Billboardโ€™s pop singles chart between 1959 and 1966, including:

โ€ข โ€œWay Down Yonder in New Orleansโ€ (#3 in both US and UK)
โ€ข โ€œPalisades Parkโ€ (#3 in US, written by Chuck Barris)
โ€ข โ€œAbigail Beecherโ€
โ€ข โ€œAction!โ€ (theme song for Dick Clarkโ€™s โ€œWhere the Action Isโ€)

Freddy became a frequent guest on popular music television shows, including โ€œShindig,โ€ โ€œHullabaloo,โ€ and โ€œMidnight Special.โ€ He also holds the record for the most appearances on Dick Clarkโ€™s โ€œAmerican Bandstandโ€ with 110 performances.

Freddy recently released a new Christmas record โ€” โ€œRed Coat Santa.โ€
Weโ€™ll listen to it on this weekโ€™s show.
