Hello friends and fans of Kenny Vance!
This week I am honored to have that man as my guest: recording artist, founding member of Jay and the Americans, lead singer of The Planotones, filmmaker, music director for Saturday Night Live, and an R&B and Doo-Wop music historian and recording artist. A literal genius… and I mean that as fact!!!
Kenny Vance made the current Amazon documentary “Heart and Soul,” and calling it a hit film is an understatement! This film is about the artists of a music genre we all know as Doo-Wop.Doo-Wop was.and still is, the genesis of Rock, Pop, and Rhythm & Blues! As Paul Simon would often say,and I quote: “It all starts with Doo-Wop!” You’ll hear Doo-Wop groups such as The Heartbeats, The Flamingos, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, and The Chantels, with that incredible Arlene Smith as their lead voice, just to name a few. She, and they all, are interviewed and honored in the movie “Heart and Soul.” And I am proud to say they are also honored on my radio show…never to be forgotten!
So we really did get lucky, folks, to have the filmmaker himself on my radio show this Saturday night…Kenny Vance! He takes us through the making of this great film called “Heart and Soul.”
Man oh man! Again, I am so proud, happy, and honored to announce that this Saturday night Kenny Vance is my very special guest…and what a great guest he is! He takes us on a magical musical Doo-Wop radio tour like never before heard on radio. My friends, this is a keeper for all of you Doo-Wop collectors and music historians out there! This is not only a show for the ages, but a show for your heart and for your soul.
And finally, Kenny Vance, my brother David, and myself close the show with a tribute to our beloved friend David Brigatti of The Rascals, who passed away last week. He was also one of the greats of all time.
