Gary Puckett and the Union Gap were one of the biggest American pop acts of the late 1960s, known for Gary Puckett’s dramatic baritone and a string of emotional hit singles. Their best-known songs include “Woman, Woman,” “Young Girl,” “Lady Willpower,” and “Over You,” all of which helped define the polished, heartfelt sound of the era.
The group came together in 1967, when Gary joined with Kerry Chater, Gary “Mutha” Withem, Dwight Bement, and Paul Wheatbread. They adopted the name The Union Gap and wore Union Army-style Civil War uniforms, a memorable visual touch that made them stand out
