Cousins, who locked the door and then threw away the key? 10 points-you got it! JAY AND THE AMERICANS were one of the outstanding groups of the 1960s with hits like “She Cried,” “Only in America,” “Come a Little Bit Closer,” and “Cara Mia.” The group was formed in New York and helped define the sound of pop and doo wop with their chart climbing hits.
Our guest this week is SANDY DEANNE. Sandy was one of the original members and a founding force behind the group. He helped shape the band’s early identity, stayed connected through later reunions, and remained an important keeper of their legacy.
Along with the other founding members, John “Jay” Traynor (original lead singer), Howard “Howie” Kane, Kenny Vance, Marty Sanders and Sandy Deanne . the group’s unique sound, hit songs, tight harmonies, and a style that still resonates with their fans today. The band earned an amazing twelve Top 40 singles during their early career.
