Kenny literally grew up knocking on every door at Tin Pan Alley’s Brill Building in New York City. There was never a doubt that this talented kid was to become one of the Nation’s most enduring Music Men. I first met Kenny when he was 15 years old – he formed The Harbor Lites (1959). The Group recorded two records for the Ivy label. Kenny eventually arranged an audition with Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller – they signed a contract with United Artists Records. The new band was called – Jay and the Americans. The group released 15 albums – their first single smash hit was “She Cried”.
This golden disc paved the way for the band to capture the music charts – “Only In America”, Let’s Lock The Door”, Come A Little Bit Closer”, “Cara Mia”, “Some Enchanted Evening” “Walking In The Rain” and “This Magic Moment ”. They were so successful that they started their own publishing and Production company (JATA Enterprises) – their last release was in 1971.
Kenny Vance continues to produce new albums and his concert appearances with the Planotones entertain sold out performances.
