Hello my friends!

DON MCLEAN’s iconic song “American Pie” is the song that stated it right, for most of the world! It really seemed like it was the day the music Died , when the music world and the world itself mourned the death of 3 very young, talented, and beloved early young rock stars perished in a plane crash on February 3rd 1959, just after take off in Clear Lake, Iowa …killing the pilot and all three of these beloved recording stars BUDDY HOLLY , RITCHIE VALENS, And J.P. “The Big Bopper” RICHARDSON.

All pioneers of Rock and Roll shaping the music and part of its literal birth . So, when this tragedy happened, to quote DON MCLEAN’s line it was “the day the music died.”, for sure. I think this song “American Pie” gave us all a chance to mourn and find closure after that tragic day in ‘59! And I believe it gave the record industry and it’s new artists time to recover and new music was born!

Let us not forget BUDDY HOLLY’s band were named “THE CRICKETS” which then gave PAUL, JOHN, RINGO, and GEORGE their name, “THE BEATLES”. So, without ever forgetting the music those 3 young men gave to us all! “The day the music died” is the day new music was born….their influence changed everything. The proof of that is incredible songs written by our guest DON MCLEAN, who was inspired to write “American Pie” and such a great composition as his song “Vincent”.

His song, paying tribute to the artist/painter, VINCENT VAN GOGH, with that beautiful melody and opening line which is the title of VAN GOGH’s famous painting “Starry, Starry Night”, proves that on the day Don wrote “Vincent”, may be one of the days music truly came alive, along with his other million-seller “And I Love You So”!
