Hey Cousins!
We are celebrating July 4th with an “All American” show! Cousin Brucie will play the American pop hits from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.
“……and our next guest was born in Hazel, Kentucky. She is one of Rock & Roll’s first major female singer-songwriter’s and is a successful broadcaster……”
In 1965, Jackie DeShannon ( that’s our guest) recorded Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s “What The World Needs Now Is Love.” The song went to number 7 on the U.S. charts and hit number one in Canada.
Jackie continued writing and recording and in 1969 she scored big – with a smash single and album -“Put A Little Love In Your Heart.” (co-written with her brother Randy Meyers and Jimmy Holiday).
The record sold over a million copies and earned Jackie a Gold Disc – and then something very special happened. “ Put A Little Love In Your Heart” was performed as the closing song at the UNICEF Concert and broadcast worldwide from the United Nations General Assembly.
Cousin Brucie welcomes this Special Lady of Song to WABC- Jackie DeShannon.
Saturday July 1st.
The best music from the 50s, 60s and 70s. I will take requests and dedications live on-air! The call-in number is 800-848-9222.
It’ll be one to remember!
Listen on Saturday from 6pm-10pm! Don’t turn the radio off after my show is over because the “Saturday Nights with Tony Orlando” show comes on right after from 10pm-midnight. It is going to be an amazing night!
Hope to see you there. CB
