Elton John’s retirement has officially commenced, but the music world was sure to make his farewell one that the world will never forget.
The music legend’s final show on his farewell tour took place in Stockholm, Sweden over the weekend (July 8), and fans were delighted to find that they would also be getting a performance from none other than Chris Martin and his band, Coldplay via one big virtual broadcast.
Martin and the group performed a moving rendition of John’s iconic ‘Rocket Man’ while they simultaneously performed at their own set in Gothenburg, Sweden. After concluding their moving cover of the fan-favorite track, Martin had a few words for the now retired singer.
Martin said:
“Elton, from all of us here, from all the bands and all the artists that you’ve loved and inspired and helped, we just love you so much…We are so grateful for everything you’ve done fFor everything you’ve done for LGBTQ. Everything you’ve done for fashion and eyewear. Everything you’ve done for sexiness, and love and dressing gowns. Everything you’ve done for music, everything Bernie has done for lyrics, everything your band has done over the thousands of shows you’ve done. We love you so much, happy retirement, and we’re going to miss you so much.”
John’s farewell tour originally kicked off in September 2018 starting in North America, playing a mind blowing 330 shows around the world and quickly becoming one of the highest grossing tours in music history.
Here’s to a happy retirement!
