Our visitor this week has many names – “Mr. Las Vegas”, “The Midnight Idol” and “Mr. entertainment”. Wayne Newton has collected all of these celebrated nicknames and has become one of the nation’s best known singers and entertainers.
He has performed more than 25,000 shows in Vegas – a definite world record. Wayne was mentored by some of most successful artists – Frank Sinatra, Elvis and Bobby Darin. By 1963 he became one of Las Vegas’ most popular acts. The Washington Post called Wayne – America’s number one night club act and is the highest grossing entertainer’s in Las Vegas history.
He hit the charts with several songs: “Danke Schoen”, “Red Roses For A Blue Lady” and “Daddy, Don’t You Walk So Fast.” “Danke Schoen” was featured in the film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” (1986).
