The term *teen idol* might well have been coined for Frankie Avalon.”
He is an Actor, Singer and
was definitely one of the original teen heartthrobs. He had 31 US chart singles from 1958 – 1962. Frankie’s number one hits “Venus” and “Why” consumed the airwaves.
He started appearing in films in the ‘60’s and captured the big screen for his role in “Grease”. Remember Frankie as “Teen Angel” singing “Beauty School Dropout.”
His music filled our hearts and record collections- including: “Just Ask Your Heart”, “I’ll Wait For You”, Bobby Sox To Stockings” and how can we forget his “Ginger Bread”.
As a child Frankie learned how to play a pretty hot trumpet. By the time he was 12 he joined “Rocco and the Saints” – a local dance band that also had a young fellow named Robert Ridarelli – that’s right – Bobby Rydell.
And surfs up – Frankie Avalon sold lots of movie tickets when he teamed up with Annette Funicello and romanced us all on the beach.
