ROCK & ROLL CALL๐๐โ๏ธ๐
MERRILEE RUSH grew up in north Seattle, and studied classical piano from a young age. In 1960, she auditioned for the Amazing Aztecs, a Seattle-area rock and roll band led by saxophone player Neil Rush, (whom she would later marry). Merrilee auditioned as a pianist, and was asked to sing – she impressed the band and was hired as their vocalist.
Merrilee is best known for her recording of the song “Angel of the Morning”, a top-10 hit that sold over a million copies. After her โMerrilee and The Turnaboutsโ success, โEverybodyโs Angel,โ Merrilee Rush, went on to sing in world-wide concerts and appeared on
American Bandstand, The Joey Bishop Show, The Glen Campbell
Goodtime Hour and other national television shows.
She was a 1968 Grammy nominated Female Vocalist of the Year for โAngel
of the Morningโ alongside Barbra Streisand, Dionne Warwick, Aretha
Franklin and Mary Hopkin. In 1989, The Northwest Area Musicians
Association honored her with Hall of Fame membership. She was inducted
into California Music Hall of Fame and received their Carol Kaye Inspiration
Award in 2023.
Merrilee still performs at special events, parties and Rock & Roll shows
across the country.
MERRILEE RUSH will visit the Cuz this Saturday 2/14/26.
